MARCH 1, 2019
INDIANAPOLIS
— All is quiet on the Trey Flowers front.
The
versatile defensive end, who won his second Super Bowl last month, is expected
to be one of the most coveted players on the market if New England isn’t able
to lock him up before free agency opens.
Teams
have until March 5 to designate franchise or transition players. The “legal
tampering” period begins March 11 and players can start signing players March
13.
Flowers’s
agent, Neil Cornrich , offered only a nonspecific “things are
going well” when asked about his client Friday morning at the NFL Combine.
Cornrich
politely declined to elaborate on whether the sides have been talking or about
any contract parameters — including money and years — that he is seeking for
Flowers, who has led the Patriots in sacks in each of the last three seasons.
Flowers,
25, is among the free agents at his position and could rocket to the top of the
list if, as expected, Houston’s Jadeveon Clowney and
Dallas’s DeMarcus Lawrence are hit with franchise’s tags.
Seattle’s Frank Clark and Philadelphia’s Brandon Graham are other
top defensive ends that could hit the market later this month.
